Matso’s story began in Broome, Western Australia, a town famous for its pearling history, red dirt, turquoise waters and hot tropical climate.
The historic building that became Matso’s has strong connections to Broome’s Japanese pearling community. In 1997, the site was transformed into a café, microbrewery and art gallery, creating the foundations for the Matso’s brand.
In 2000, Martin and Kim Peirson-Jones took over the business and began focusing on developing its food and brewing operations. As the brewery grew, so did its reputation for creating beers and drinks that were anything but ordinary.
Rather than following traditional brewing conventions, Matso’s embraced the Kimberley lifestyle and climate, experimenting with bold flavours and refreshing styles designed for warm Australian conditions.
