The Story of Canadian Club
The story of Canadian Club begins in 1858, when Hiram Walker established his distillery in Walkerville, Ontario. Walker wanted to create a whisky that was smooth, easy to drink and stood apart from the generic whiskies of the time.
Originally known as “Club Whisky”, the spirit became particularly popular in American gentlemen’s clubs. In 1882, new labelling requirements meant that the whisky needed to identify its country of origin, and Club Whisky officially became Canadian Club.
Canadian Club went on to become one of the most recognised Canadian whiskies in the world. Its history even includes a fascinating chapter during Prohibition, when Canadian Club became one of the most smuggled whiskies into the United States.
More than a century later, the brand continues to focus on the smooth, versatile character that made it famous.
